Working With Wool: Spinning
3 Full Days – 10am-4:30pm
Come spend 3 days learning the craft of spinning wool using beautiful Gotland wool.
There will be an opportunity to use spinning wheels, spindles, wool combs, and hand and drum carders. By the end of 3 days you will be familiar with the equipment and will have spun several small skeins of yarn for use in knitting , weaving or as accent yarn in felted items.

Working With Wool: An Introduction To Natural Dyes
1 Full Day – 10am-4pm
Come spend a day gaining an overview of how to make your own natural dyes for fabrics with textile designer, Jane Deane.
You will learn how to use 2 plant dyes that can be grown in the UK. We will dye a number of skeins in each dyepot and then use 4 modifiers (after-baths) to change the colours slightly.

Working With Wool: Making And Using Natural Dyes
2 Full Days – 10am-4:30pm
This course covers dyeing with plant and insect materials and will include an indigo vat. We will explore dyeing wool yarn with yellow and red and investigate the creation of fast greens and purples by over-dyeing with the blues from indigo and possibly woad (dependent on the growing conditions). We will use printing paste on natural fabrics using blocks, and shibori for tied or clamped effects.

Spinning for Beginners
For complete beginners. Spindles and wheels are available to use at the studio.
Spinning: Beyond the Basics
For those with some experience. We will explore the different methods of spinning and the relevant preparation
Spinning: Whacky Fibres
Come and try some of the vast range of fibres now available to the handspinner, and learn how best to spin them
Spinning: Silk
A comprehensive look at the life cycle of the silk moth and how it produces its silk. We will look at the range of silk fibres commercially available to the handspinner, and how best to spin them.
Designing Yarn
This course will show you how to create a yarn from a photograph, painting, object or piece of writing that appeals to you. This course is for “non-artists”! We will work through some basic design exercises to achieve the yarn.

Dyeing: Acid Dyes
Using acid dyes on yarn or fabric, we will create a repeatable dye library
Dyeing: Natural Dyes
Natural dyeing, mordanting and modifying the colours using non-hazardous materials and extract dye solutions will introduce you to environmentally and ethically good practice
Dyeing: Indigo
The magical blue dye. We can dyes yarns, fibres and fabrics using an indigo vat.

Design for the Terrified
Using simple materials and straightforward exercises, create designs for yarn, fibres or fabric. Your sketchbook does not have to be a smart art book; paper and something to keep it in is quite enough
